New Book to Read.....Getting Out

After all the loss freedoms we have been taking in the country (see the wiretap bill, torture bill, 700 mile fence, etc.) this book recently came along and is sure to be a best seller.

Getting Out, available here, is a how to guide for leaving the US. It gives you step by step instruction on what you need to know, where to go, what paperwork to fill out and how to support yourself when you get there. The sample sections that are up on the site are done very well and represent the book well.

From the page............

Getting Out walks you through the world of the expat: the reasons, the rules, the resources, the tricks of the trade, along with compelling stories and expertise from expatriate Americans on every continent.

Getting Out shows you where you can most easily gain residence and citizenship, where can you live for a fraction of the cost of where you’re living now, and what countries would be most compatible with your lifestyle, gender, age, or political beliefs.

Chapters Included:
  • Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
  • Foreign Citizenship and How to Get It
  • Work and Study Options Abroad
  • Choosing a Country: How Do They Stack Up?
  • The Top 50 Expat Meccas
  • Doing It: How to Begin, What’s Involved, and Where to Turn
  • Web Resources

Bush OKs 700-mile border fence

Sigh...... OK I think a fence is a REALLY stupid idea. I have since I heard that it was one of the new legislation packages that was bouncing around. I look at it this way, a fence is a two way thing. Fences keep out, but they also keep in. It's as if the fence is a concrete thing that represents the loss of freedoms and rights in this country.

OK, so we have a new fence. Great. Now as CNN points out , no one knows how we will pay for it. Well, it's really not a mystery....700 miles X contract labor + kickbacks = a whole lot of tax increases. More taxes..... as if taking 45% of my salary every year wasn't enough, let's just
increase it some more.....

My kid want's fish

Yeah, he mentioned it again today. Not sure why, he may have seen a commercial for Little Mermaid on the Disney Channel. I still strongly believe that if we get a tank, well, disaster comes to mind. So, HERE is a possible solution. What do you think? Is it cheating? Hope not :-) This DVD looks like it might be my savior from the "hey Daddy why's the fish swimming upside down?" questions. Just not ready for that yet LOL......

Here's a blurb from their site... Ambient Water Video Aquarium DVD

All New & Shot in True Hi-Def (1080i)

Over 3 hours of crystal clear video aquariums

I think I want to wear ties again....

I miss neckties. I know that does not sound like me, but yeah, I miss 'em. I'm sick of wearing polo's to work and since it's getting cooler now so I am wearing more button down shirts. But the caveat would have to be that I can wear "fun" ties to work like the ones on the left. I found those ties HERE as well as directions on how to tie all the knots I usually screw up :-)

I used to wear a lot of fun novelty ties when I was in an office. Once I went into the IT field they were not the best idea. Open PC's running... well you get the idea. Being a desk jockey again makes me want to dress up now and again and not just for interviews. Maybe it's just time....

ties

I admit it, guilty as charged!

It seems 78% of Americans re-gift. Yup, guilty as charged :-) In fact, I think my entire family has done it multiple times. Now deep down, does this really surprise anybody? LOL, yes I'm sure it does and now it's a statistic :-) I guess the real question is why. For me.... frankly there are very very few people who get it right. My wife does. My parents who have know me all my life? mmmmm not so much :-) Oh well, one month to re-gifting season! Happy Holidays everyone!

Cellfire - Coupons on your cell phone

I came across this interesting site today while surfing around. I am always looking for deals and ways to save money. Most of the sites I frequent only have online codes for discounts and I use these a lot, especially at Amazon, but this is different.

Cellfire, www.cellfire.com, sends coupons to you cell phone. This seems pretty cool. I signed up and am going to try it the next time I go shopping to see how people react. Hopefully they react well since I hate carrying paper coupons. Well, OK, actually I hate leaving my coupons at home, that's usually what happens :-) They have a few coupons for T.G.I. Parent criticizes book 'Fahrenheit 451'

Queue the irony in 3, 2, 1.....

OK, so this parent wants to ban a sci-fi book that is about book banning and censorship.......

AAAahhhh hahahahahahahahahahahahahaah Too funny! Oh yeah, in case you didn't know, Bradbury chose the number 451 in the title because that is the temperature at which paper burns.

A Caney Creek High School dad is fired up because the Conroe Independent School District uses the book "Fahrenheit 451" as classroom reading material.

New Jersey launches iTunes tax

Ahhhhh, gotta love Jersey! (read in subtle sarcasm in case you missed it)
Cnet News

October 3, 2006 11:24 AM PDT

Beginning this week, New Jersey residents purchasing music and videos from services like Apple's iTunes and rival digital downloads e-tailers encountered something they'd previously only found at bricks-and-mortar counterparts: a sales tax.

Democratic Governor Jon Corzine proposed the sales tax expansion earlier this spring to help the state to recover from a $4.5 billion budget deficit...

America,

I’m not a pedophile. I’m pro-wrestler. You’re thinking of Mark Foley. Please stop sending me nasty emails. I don’t even have AIM. Thank you for understanding.

Sincerely,
Mick Foley, a.k.a. Mankind, a.k.a. Cactus Jack, a.k.a. Dude Love

P.s. Don’t read into the Dude Love thing. It’s just a nickname, I swear.

Yes this is a total rip-off from Best Week Ever. Go see 'em, they rock! LINK
